Why You Should Start Wearing Orange Blush | Makeup For Dark Skin

July 11, 2018

It’s summer time so it’s all about the glow and I’m not just talking about highlighter! Ever since I’ve discovered the magnificence of orange blush on dark skin, I've done nothing but shout from the rooftops about how amazing it is. Orange blush particularly stands out against all the pinks, berries, and reds when it comes to blush. This is because it has a unique ability to give darker skin the perfect warm glow without looking crazy or obvious. It warms up the face in the right places and gives your cheeks an undetectable glow and it’s perfect for everyone regardless of how much makeup you wear. You can get away with wearing this on its own and still look beautiful.

As I always say, don’t be afraid of blush! I really believe it’s hard for anything to look bad on dark skin and it’s the technique that matters in my opinion. A soft wash of color is the best way to go of course, as you don’t want it to look clownish and overdone. Dab a little bit on your cheeks, pat it in with your fingers, and then go back in with a damp beauty blender or fluffy makeup brush if you feel the color is still too heavy. With the right amount of blush in the right shade, I guarantee you you’ll look and feel like a brand new woman. Here are 5 blush recommendations to get you started!

1. Glossier Cloud Paint, Dawn - $18

My favorite blush at the moment, Dawn is a beautiful warm and bright orange shade that blends into the skin seamlessly to give you a truly effortless glow. All you need is two small dots on each cheek because this blush is very pigmented - it’ll last you a lifetime.

2. NARS Blush, Taj Mahal  - $30

The original holy grail orange blush for dark skin, this is described as a “burnt orange with golden shimmer”. This blush mixes two of the best colors you can possibly wear on dark skin. The golden shimmers in the blush giving you an extra glow and can double as a subtle highlight, so you can kill two birds with one stone.

3. Benefit Cha-Cha Tint - $30

This tint is perfect for the summer as it’s liquid and waterproof. You can wear this to the beach, the pool, or on a scorching hot day, and you won’t have to worry about your blush disappearing. This mango-tinted blush also doubles as a lip stain so this is another product where you can kill two birds with one stone and it’ll last all day long!

4. BECCA Beach Tint, Papaya - $25

This color is a nice mix of poppy red and papaya orange for the perfect amount of warmth and brightness. The red undertones of this will look especially look good on deep-dark skin tones as it creates a nice contrast. Like the Benefit tint, this also is water-resistant and doubles as a lip product so you get a bang for your buck.

5. Juvia’s Place The Saharan Blush Palette Vol. 1 - $18

Bonus points because this is a Black-owned company, this blush palette features the perfect blush colors and highlights for dark skin as well as a contour color. The shade “Toby” is especially stunning as it’s the perfect warm, mid-tone orange for dark skin.
