The Benefits of Doing Pilates

Pilates is an exercise in which it focuses on strengthening of the core, which controls everything else around your body. This means it benefits just about every other part of your body like your thighs, butt, abdominal, back, trapezius, and more. Pilates was founded by Joseph Pilates and named after him. This exercise helps with dancers, swimmers, runners, and other athletes because it teaches you the proper way to move your body.  Pilates has many benefits that can improve your physical and mental health.

 

1. Your Posture

Are you one to walk around slouching your shoulders all the time? Or maybe you were told that you could possibly have scoliosis in the future? Well Pilates help line your spine correctly. Having a nice posture improves your overall appearance. It makes you look more professional. It makes you look more confident and youthful when your back aligns straight. Not to mention, it feels better for your back because your shoulders are not hunched over  causing pain in your trapezius and mid back. 

 

 

2. Anxiety

When you do Pilates you learn that your body can tolerate pain, as long as you are breathing. The mistake many people make throughout working out, is they do not breathe correctly. While you are moving and breathing, you will feel the tension leaving your body. By the time you get done with your work out, you will feel more relaxed and less tense. It is similar to the practices that are done in yoga. It is meant to relax you. It is hard work, but it does reduce stress when you breathe. 

 

 

 

3. Knowing your Body

Learning how much control you have over your body is vital to know before you move it. There are many people who are involved in activities, but they overuse certain muscles because they do not know the proper muscles to rely on when they make a move. For example, some dancers over work their quads because they do not know how to rely on their hamstrings. So some parts of their bodies look stronger than intended. When you do Pilates and breathe hard, feeling your core muscles, you will learn to feel the other muscles in your body as well. When you move you learn to move for a purpose.

 

 

 

4. Patience 

Results take time, but in Pilates you learn that it is not always about speed or how many reps you do. You learn that it is better to learn to workout the right way once, than it is to workout many times the wrong way. Learning to move your body the right way does take patience and precision, but the results are well worth it.

 

 

 

5. A Toned Body

When you do Pilates, do not expect to loose 30 pounds. You should more so expect to loose inches and have a more toned body. Your legs will be toned, your abs, your thighs, your butt, everything will have a shape. This can benefits anybody! From skinny to plus size. Pilates is for everybody.
