Black Make-Up Artists to Know

September 22, 2017

In an industry that is just now catching up to speed when it comes to catering to darker skin and being inclusive of darker black women, it can be kind of difficult to find makeup artists to draw inspiration from, learn from, or even book because contrary to popular belief, a lot of popular makeup artists don't truly know how to work with dark skin.

They don't know what color make our skin pop, they don't know how to match our foundations correctly, they don't know how to highlight and contour our faces without making us 3 shades lighter. Our beauty is masked and lightened most of the time when it's completely unnecessary.

White makeup artists take up a big chunk of the conversation and space when it comes to giving attention to professional makeup artists, especially celebrity makeup artists. I don't see Black pro makeup artists getting the same shine as their white counterparts despite how deserving it is, so I want to help put them on the map too. And I don't know about you guys but I'm tired of seeing cakey, unflattering makeup on everyone. I'm looking at you, Love and Hip Hop. So if you want to see fresh and glam makeup looks for dark skin, then you’ve come to the right place!
